Best Practice Privacy Statement

What personal information do we collect from the people that visit our website?

The only personal information steamystats collects is a voluntarily given name and your current IP address.

Like almost all websites we use server log files for the purpose of detecting and preventing fraud and unauthorized system access. We do this to ensure the security of our system and this data is only held for a limited time (GDPR Recital 49).

Server log files contain the client IP address used to access the site as well as the datetime, the website location being accessed and HTTP header information.

We use Google reCaptcha and Google Analytics

When do we collect information?

We collect your current IP address, without any identifying information attached, from you when you respond to our poll of the day.

When using our contact form you may be asked to enter your name but this is optional. On submitting your comment your current IP address will be recorded, without any identifying information attached, to it. This is to reduce the rate at which any one location can post messages to the page. This is also a minor form of spam protection.

How do we use your information?

IP addresses are collected to help make the poll results more accurate by reducing the amount of votes coming from a single location. It is also a minor form of spam protection.

We do not use your name for anything other than for the basic distinguishing of individuals in comments. Your name has no requirement to be unique and others can use the same names as anyone else.

When you use the Private Message form on our contact page we only use your email address to send you a reply. We do nothing else with any email address you submit to the Site and will never give any email addresses to a third party without direct explicit consent.

How do we protect your information?

  • We do not use vulnerability scanning and/or scanning to PCI standards.
  • We only provide articles and information. We never ask for credit card numbers.
  • We use regular Malware Scanning.

Your personal information is contained behind secured networks and is only accessible by a limited number of persons who have special access rights to such systems, and are required to keep the information confidential. In addition, all sensitive information you supply is encrypted via Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology.

Do we use ‘cookies’?

Yes. Steamystats uses Google Analytics to analyse visitor interactions and produce informative statistics. Google Analytics uses “cookies”, which are small text files placed on your computer, to collect standard internet log information and visitor behaviour information in an anonymous form. Note the deliberate emphasis of anonymous, as no personally identifiable information is collected about you unless you explicitly submit that information on this website.
